[speaking of a linux console, aka command line. not console like xbox]

Well, anyho, i want some recommendations for good console-based games.
Couple of years ago i found a REALLY fun ala`space-invaders-shoot-'em-up game that worked in console, it was a whole lot of fun, even had colors support, but i can't recall the damn name.. blergh..

anyways, Should you have any good linux console games, list them here.

**errkkkk**

Why would someone want to play a game in Linux console? I understand in X-Windows, but in console?

Anyway I don't know any, but I bet that the best one would be some kind of text adverture, you remember, the old games that there was only text and some "pictures" and you controlled your character like "GO SOUTH" or "OPEN LIGHT". Nice games they were!!

For the feeling of 'old'ness you know :P

I found a game called 'dope wars', which is kinda popular, but it doesn't offer much 'action' , only click-this-click-that basis, no animations or anything..

blerh wish i could find that damn space invaders game :@

I have the sources (in FORTRAN!) of an *extremely* *old* character-mode game called 'DUNGEON' - It was either the very first or one of the first MUD-type games, and was the basis for very may follow-up games.
Unfortunately the compiled version I have is for OpenVMS VAX, and the compilation scripts/instructions for VMS (There was no Alpha when this game came out, I remember it from the late '70s - That's last century)

Anyone want to try porting, and knows enough FORTRAN - drop me a line.

...Naaahh, did'nt think so... :P

A good programmer can write FORTRAN in any language

And for you Eunice weenies who differentiate between upper- and lower-case: Thats FORTRAN, not fortran! ;)

Keep well,

fortran is a nice and clear language even if it does not have "sturcture" and objects.

It should not be too complicate to port.

Well iv'e tried a couple of dozens of games from linux.org and.. well.. you can only do so much with ncurses..

Some games were alot of fun, but i'll stick to GTA:VC and NFS:u, i find my life really hard to live without pixel shaders ;)

I actually like the fact that these first quests are not in a line of any kind I think it makes the introducing of the game easier, cause it shows pretty much everything this game gives
