X apps on OpenVMS Itanium?

Postby mrichmond_ia64 » Mon Feb 11, 2019 9:55 am

I'm running MobaXterm in Windows https://mobaxterm.mobatek.net/ (a free xserver and terminal client) to access OpenVMS on Polarhome's Itanium. Is it possible to locally display x-apps? It works fine with my local Linux machines, I just have no clue how to forward or if I can forward with this OpenVMS machine.

Thank you for letting me use this great machine!

Exporting display from a VMS works easy within the network.
Use:
Code: Select all
set disp/create/node=192.168.5.223/trans=tcpip
with you IP address

Unfortunately, in the NAT-ed environment it is much more complicated.
The DISPLAY needs to be tunneled over SSH. This works nice on Linux and most modern Unix servers - but OpenVMS is different. It has it's own SSH implementation, that is not compatible with the common OpenSSH.

It is possible.
I have done it earlier - but I could not succeed now. I'll check my old notes.
Regards,
Z
