Z, please consider it a gift from myself, and enjoy a glass for me. - It would cost a fortune to send it to the UK.

Also, did you receive my couple of emails over the last weekend?

my latest

Postby miker_alpha » Tue Sep 26, 2006 9:07 am

I really enjoy playing with out-dated machines (I used to have a 486 under DOS that connected to the internet in text mode not so long ago)
My latest is an old Digital Hinote laptop, 96MB, using Ubuntu: It connects (albeit at 10Mb), it browses, it emails, it word-processes -- what more do I need...? :D

and it cost way less than $100 -- take that, Negroponte!! :!:

Anyone running anything older/feebler/slower? :?:

The older thing I managed to get running is a Pentium 200MMX with 64MB RAM. I used it for download reasons when I had the small 384kbps line. (I just let it download all day and all night!)

I had to run Windows 98 though, I couldn't get any distro run in the same speed with just 64 RAM.

I stopped using it though, since I first get a cheap laptop for this job (P3 850MHz, 256MB RAM) and then I got a 2Mbps line so I don't need that kind of setup anymore!

Sorry, for late reply... I have been quite busy lately (you know - I work for americans now).

Thank you for the wine... it was really delicious.
But please note: I am fully aware how much it costs to post a bottle to UK - and I was prepared to pay that cost. You know - the price is a price :)

I got your irc secription... but I haven't had time to post it somewhere. Solaris has a highest prio nowadays. I wasnt to migrate to Solaris 10 and an Ultra 5 with lot of RAM. But that migration is not that easy and I can not simply get 2-3 nights to do that even if both boxes are online for more than 6 months.
Regards,
Z

I appreciate the prospect of the gift, but would rather money was spent on polarhome. - I am working on the project we discussed for IRC and will update when I have completed a successful trial.

I am looking forward to the solaris update, it sounds very promising.
