"We who are about to die salute you!"

Off now to take the IT security auditor certification exam.

I came through it alive, and it didn't seem to bad. Have to wait for the results to come back to see which way Caesar sticks his thumb. :?

I also hope that it went well. :-)

By the way, what would be a typical question asked on such an exam? (If it's easy to say!)

The Certified Information System Auditor (CISA) exam is fairly broad, ranging from audit practices to management to information technology. Here is a practice question pulled at random from the book I used to study (CISA Study Guide by Cannon):

The IS auditor has just completed a review of an organization. Which of the following weaknesses would be considered the most serious? [four choices ...]

I took a glance at the book -- the exam looks formidable! 200 questions in four hours?! No wonder that VMS doesn't intimidate you. :-)

I felt that I could answer some of the sample questions relating to information technology, but those on audit practices and management were beyond me.

How long does one have to prepare for such an exam?

As long as one wants. The exam is offered three times a year, and I don't think there's any rule on how far ahead you can start preparing. To get the certification, after passing the exam you have to demonstrate work experience as an IT security auditor, so it takes several years for that.
