Safe mode disabling in Fedora

Postby ateivis_redhat » Mon Jun 06, 2005 4:51 pm

Sorry for disturbing you. I know that Fedora is far from "ready", but could you disable safe mode on it, cause much of php scripts with fopen() and etc. are not working properly. Thanks. I hope that it won't be too much incovenient to do this.

Sorry, safe mode is off  by design on Polarhome hosts.

Learn to live with it...

What miker meant is that safe_mod is enabled (not off :) ) in all Polarhome boxes for security reasons, therefore it is not happening in Fedora because it's new. After all safe mod is disabled by default in php config.

Ok, but i use fopen and similar commands in my local directory for opening txt files (posts and etc.), not anywhere else. I thought that might be because of permissions, so I've tried to change it through ftp (using tcmd), but I've got a strange error - smth. similar to cannot change permissions on remote host. :?: I am owner, so how it could be. Now I am thinking about, that could be a reason why fopen is not working.

First: Sorry I mixed up 'on' and 'off' in my previous post /hides head in shame...

OTOH whatever you try, succeed or fail to do in FTP has nothing to do with safe mode. That affects PHP *only*.

Perhaps try using the 'quote' command in FTP?

Sorry. I was so desperate when it refused to work and when i tried chmod some files or delete them which were not working, i've got this error which i've mentioned above. I have no idea, why it goes that way (it was running so smoothly ;] before partitions were damaged and upgrade to fedora was made). I am not so stupid to associate safe_mode and ftp fault, but i think that both their flaws are consequences of corrupted my files attributes within the server.

P.S. Finally, even error was popping up 9 of 10 times, i've seized the opportunity and managed to delete some files.

If you think that i've imagined this error, i have some screenshots at my home computer. So if you need it i can post it.

We have to face it. Redhat/Fedora is not in the best shape right now.

It's quite possible that your files got corupted or deleted. If you have backups you should try and replace the files.
