You don't recieve any details when you register..

all the details you need are in your polarhome email address.

Heh, I thought I received an email when registering, but that was some time ago.

BTW why isn't there a verification system that you'll need to open a link in the email PH sends in your other mail so that the new account is created? It helps to reduce many "false" registrations.

Why bother?

Unused accounts take bearly any space [think it was 10kb or something along those lines]

Yeah but like this someone can register 10 accounts without any problems. If he should have 10 emails to do that, it may be better. I am talking about guys that plan to host Mp3s and that kind of stuff.

In the other hand I always suggest things, and if you followed all my suggestions you should do no other job!

10 accounts x10kb = 100kb, still isn't worth the bother of an email-verification system.

And those who hosted mp3 files in the past on polarhome systems, know how fast Z gets on their case.

One day I wanted to see other pages in polarhome and I took it's names in my ftp program (names begining in "n") and I was surprised when I see that all of them are in blank. I put the direction in my browser and all were empty.

I try to see 20 pages and all were empty. I can't see one page working.

This is only for your information.

You see? It doesn't look tidy, does it? Just get all the forum users with a _OS next to their username and try to see how many of them have pages.

I think email activation should be used if this is possible of course.

Would'nt it add workload to Z if everyone had to confirm opening an account by email? Surely it would be possible to deactivate/delete any account that was not accessed/modified/logged-in/whatever for the past n months (6<n<60)
I don't know enough Un*x/Linux to know how to do this. In OpenVMS it a very SMOP :D

afaik the last 'cleanup' of unused accounts was on redhat, cause the kernel didn't really like handling 60k users.

Prior to that there were no 'mass deletion' of accounts due to space/load problems

Just like i said, an email verification thing would just add load to polarhome service and will do no good.

Most people have more than one email you know..
ex, i have 35 :) [no, not kiddin]

Yeah I understand, but if it is simple to add, I think it should be added. All free service site have it nowadays, as many people give fake emails (like none@none.com) and if they see it needs to open a link in the email, just doesn't make an account.

@miker: I mean about an automatic confirmation, not that zoli will have to do it manually.

well, possibly. E.g. an email saying:
Your temporary password is <random string>
use Admin (or whatever) to change it to the password of your choice...

would that do? and then check for unaccessed accounts...

Does that fit with your view? and with Zoli's? - after all, he has to do the work! ;)

I don't think you understand.

1)Some fills and sends the application for an account.

2)A confirmation email is send to a working email address that includes a link we should click.

3) He goes where the link says.

4)System creates the account.
