I have been using your redhat hosting for quite some time because you provided free MYSQL services.

It was completely fine at the beginning, but now, when my forum database (I am using your redhat hosting and the forum program was phpBB 2.0.10) grew up to about 220KB, something terrible happened. The loading speed is terribly slow, ranging from at least 15 seconds to about 1 minute. Also, the little icons (e.g. this one -> :) ) loading slowly. It is especially annoying when a lot of them are displayed (just like the screen now. on the left, there are a lot of smilies)

Can anything be done about it, no matter by me or by you? I know that providing free service for MYSQL is not easy, but I do hope that the loading speed could be improved. :)

Or does switching the hosting server (still stay at polarhome, coz I feel good of the service :) ) to e.g. mandrake help? thanks

By the looks of your question, it's not mysql that's causing the problem..
the problem is bandwdith, polarhome [as you know] only has 1mbit upload, shared between 10 servers and 40,000~ active users.
nothing that can be done about that, sadly, unless some swedish ISP decides to offer T1 / T3 at the price of normal DSL...

As per mandrake, it only has 96k upload [12kB/ps], but the number of users is very low [20~ active], so you might 'enjoy' it a bit more than redhat, for the time being.
[btw, mandrake is the only polarhome server that isn't hosted in sweden, so even if polarhome itself goes down / gets overloaded / whatever, mandrake will still be up]

/DenisF

Redhat's athlon xp 1700+ can handle 20x loads just fine, even with a 20x it will be faster than mandrake on 0x ;)

anyway, wanna email the guy and ask'm nicely to stop spamming the system with his proc's ?

Hi,

I am writing to ask that you use less of the Redhat.Polarhome.Com system resources … your perl processes are crippling the server. Your processes alone are using over 50% of the cpu sustained. I am asking that you reduce the usage as this is making things harder for other users.

Regards,
