I have been trying to use the Polarhome webmail interface to reply to emails and send new emails during the past couple of days. It always fails, no matter which machine I am logged into, whether I use my shell account login or a non-shell account login.

In the webmail client page I enter my reply or my new email, enter a Subject line, check the To address for validity, and press "Send Message". It always replies:

ERROR:
ERROR sending message to test@example.com

(Bogus email address substituted in example).

The From address, entered automatically, is always correct.

Am I just unlucky, or is this currently a known problem with Polarhome webmail?

Is this related to Polarhome's disabling of basic socket functions, etc, in PHP and the like to prevent abuses?

I can send emails from my shell account (on debian), no problem, so the underlying mail delivery system seems to be working happily.

Sounds like a bugged webmail client [i take it you're referring to phpop?]

Id'e say use the mail feature in usermin, it's a bit faster and works just fine.

Yes, I was referring to phpop.

Thanks for the advice. I'm giving usermin a go on redhat. Pity all the usermin installations do not have the webmail client.

hi,

It is a serious problem... probably caused by new sendmail.
I will try to fix ASAP.

The first webmin interface I checked was debian's. That apparently has only the plan file editor. No webmail.

So usermin is a useful stopgap for some accounts, but not universally applicable.
