AIX died :(

Postby zoli » Thu Feb 08, 2007 8:24 pm

hello,

It passed one month since AIX server died.
I have tried everything in order to recover the box - but nothing helped.

Yesterday I faced even harder problem.
I decided to reinstall the box and find that the hard disk in not usable at all. It is in that bad shape that it can not be even formatted.

... and to be worse I do not have any spare VHD SCSI disk.

So, I just wanted to warn that it will take a while and home directories are lost.

An VHD SCSI disk or an VHD adapter would help.
Regards,
Z

I take it normal IDE/Sata hard drive is of no use?

I'll check my olde warehouse, maybe there are some 10gig scsi drives there.
Would that [10gig] be enough for the AIX system?

Thanks, but the problem is in the SCSI interface... it requires a special SCSI adapter/converter or a disk with this interface. :(

OK, I "consumed" three disks until a found a one that works stable on AIX box.

The box is re installed from scratch and soon will be online.

The bad news is that home directories are lost.
polarhome have partial weekly backups of vital system files, mail, databases etc, but polarhome does not have storage capacity for home directories.

It's back again... I would not have time to hassle around with this box, but I got some influenza an was forced to stay at home for few days.

... and you know, even with fewer it is quite boring to do nothing. :)
