Hi y`all. I recently made my shell account here at Polarhome and I uploaded there an eggdrop 1.6.15. The problem is that when I type in ./configure it sends me the next error message: bash: ./configure: /bin/sh: ban interpreter: Permission denied.
To access my shell I use Putty!
Please, if someone knows how to resolve this, tell me what do I have to do!
Thanks anticipated!

Indeed,

When you log in, have you typed 'bash' to load the bash prompt or are you just using sh... Also which server are you using?

/me suspects FreeBSD

Try
chmod +x configure

Yet again FTP clients fubar file permissions :/
Id'e suggest you wget the tar.gz to your shell and extract it there (tar zxvf filename), instead of uploading the entire archive.

OK, I made it to here, but after the ./configure is done I must type in make config. This doesn`t work either!
It says: make: execvp: ./misc/modconfig: Permission denied
make: *** [config] Error 127.

So what shoul I do now?

I`ve done what you sayd DenisF and I made it to the compiling ("./configure" done, "make install" done). Then I typed in "make" and this is what happened:
You can now compile the bot, using "make".

halal@debian:~/eggdrop1.6.15$ make
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/h/halal/eggdrop1.6.15/src'
(This may take a while. Go get some runts.)
gcc -pipe -g -O2 -Wall -I.. -I.. -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -c bg.c
gcc: vfork: Resource temporarily unavailable
make[1]: *** [bg.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/h/halal/eggdrop1.6.15/src'
make: *** [modegg] Error 2

So what now?

My gusess would be that you had too many vforks (while compiling).

Did you try again later?

Finally I made it with the compiling, I have even installed it successfully ;) . But I guess I have to go through every possible problem. After I upload the configured .conf file and I type in "./eggdrop -m eggdrop.conf" it gives me the following message:
Eggdrop v1.6.15 © 1997 Robey Pointer © 2003 Eggheads
[12:56] --- Loading eggdrop v1.6.15 (Sun Feb 22 2004)
[12:56] Tcl error in file 'eggdrop.conf':
[12:56] Couldn't grab nearby port
while executing
"listen 6667 all"
(file "eggdrop.conf" line 255)
[12:56] * CONFIG FILE NOT LOADED (NOT FOUND, OR ERROR)

I tried a few ports but no luck.
Please help... again ;)

Use your head. 6667 is the port for irc.polarhome.com (so it's obvious that is't taken).

Choose a free one. <a href='http://www.polarhome.com/service/ports.html' target='_blank'>Instructions</a>.

Choose a freeport from the url Matej suggested, and fix the error on port 255 (probably the port)

Okidok, iv'e just compiled an eggdrop on debian, bind it to port 33333, and everything worked right.

So there -must- be something you're doing wrong..

DeniF, which server did you connect your eggdrop to? I want to connect mine to an Undernet server. Someone told me that I won`t find a server for it because there are too many bots already and I will get the Too many connections from your host error message.
So what do you say? Do I have a chance that my egg will run on Undernet?
