1) Use search in the forum.
2) Find out that you need to turn Passive mode off.

Beware, your ftp client is still using pasive ftp (see the PASV command). You should try another ftp client: for testing i would recommend the command-line ftp command available in both linux and windows :p

Look, you really need to close Passive mode. Get a proper FTP program like AceFTP (lol) and turn it off for good!

Please try FTP from the command line on whatever box you are on.
e.g. on a billy-box open a DOS-type window, and at the prompt enter:
Code: Select all
> FTP
FTP> PASSIVE OFF
FTP> CONNECT mandrake.polarhome.com
...

and enter your username and password when requested.

Does that work? If it does, roll up SmartFTP and dispose.
If it does not work - what error(s) are shown?

I would do the following if I were you:
1. get Total Commander 6.03a (cause it`s very ease to use)
2. Setup New FTP connection in it (enter server:port, user, password, easily turn on/off passive mode with one click, and whatever more is needed to do)
3. Hit the Connect button
4. Enjoy :D

Mandrake is up, but only for a while.

Read:
http://www.polarhome.com/pipermail/pola ... 00059.html

Since you have not uploaded something and you have trouble uploading your files there, then get a new account in another server. If you just want to host your website, I suggest Irix, as it was recently restored and the loads will be fine.

These servers are the ones FTP users data will be moved to. As you don't have any data online, feel free to choose any server you want!

I suggested Irix (Tru64 is not up yet, AFAIK) because it went online last week, so it has only about 100 users (or less). Compare this to the 60,000 users the poor Redhat has and you understand that the loads of the Irix server will be much lower and your site will respond faster. Also less load and less users usually means less downtime!

You choose, I made my suggestion! :)

PS. Before you make an account in Irix and come back asking how to access your page / FTP, have a look in the port forwading table!

S-ooo, if we actually have (had?) some stuff in our Mandrake accounts, will we be notified if/when it is moved, and where to?

I do not understand if FTP accounts are to sign up on IRIX/Tru64 themselves or to wait for Z etc. to give specifics on what's going.
Sorry.

By the way, good luck Denis, I hope you don't need it! :)

Zoli already has all of your files, email, and mysql data from the mandrake server.

the server itself is currently up and will be up until saturday, so that you can download whatever you need from it.

if you don't wanna do that, email Z and ask him to restore your old mandrake account on Irix, or wait until Tru64 is launched and ask for your account to be moved there.

simple as that :)

By the way, good luck Denis, I hope you don't need it! :)
^^^
thanks :D

Well of course if you have your data in Mandrake the best you can do is download them from there right now (if you don't have a copy in your HD) and backup any databases.

Then create an account in whatever system you want and upload them again there. Or you can wait for zoli to do it!

BTW maybe it would be better to move all users in just one server so that mandrake.polarhome.com/~user will redirect to polarhome.com:xxx/~user ?
Just an idea as many users may use that link, don't shoot, m'okey?
