Polarhome Web Gallery

Postby papa » Tue May 11, 2010 8:39 am

Anyone have a Polarhome-hosted web site that's ready for public consumption? Post a link below and show off.

(I, myself, am still a few days (or weeks) away from replacing my template site with something more interesting, but will post a link here when I do.)

If any Polarhomers are serving content from their accounts here, I think it would be nice to maintain a Polarhome Web Gallery on its own page, and/or to set up a proxy on an external site to make Polarhome port-mapped pages accessible from behind port-blocking firewalls.

Hello,

it is a good idea, unfortunately hard to maintain therefore I made a list of users with homepage links into the port forwarded host - allowing crawlers and spiders for find and index for search engines

For example Debian user list is here:

That's nice, Z. Thanks.

Looking at a few entries at random my suspicion is confirmed that a lot of Polarhomers haven't actually done anything with their web space. I wonder if there's a way to generate a list of links to user sites where the template index.html has been replaced or changed.

It's nothing to brag about, but I have at least replaced my Debian site's template with something of my own:

Here's a gallery of web pages on Debian: http://www.polarhome.com:753/~papa/debian-gallery.html

I wrote a shell script to pick out user sites where the standard template index.html has been modified or replaced. 15,000 users, 9 updated web sites.

It's a start, at least.

Zoli, PM or e-mail me if you'd like to know more about the script to run it on the other hosts. Or I can post it here if you'd prefer that.

hahaha this is an interesting statistics... It would be interesting to collect such statistics on every service like:
- how many logons
- spent time in shell
- mail usage per user, per host
- home page

.. I think that the result would be scary and at the end it would show up that the whole polarhome is just for my own amusement - that I can not really enjoy as I am preoccupied with my ordinary job :)

On Netbsd I have created two simple (very simple, but I have bigger plans for them ;)) web interfaces to the BSD Fortune Cookie program:

(When you've opened either interface, use your browser "Update" button to get a new fortune or verse.)
