In January 2002, legislation became effective that gives West Papua more
autonomy over both its governance and the royalties and taxes from its
mineral wealth. Is this legislation enough, and how should questions of
governance be dealt with now?
Speakers include:
. John Rumbiak, supervisor of the West Papua Institute for Human Rights
Study and Advocacy (ELS-HAM).
. Senator Andrew Bartlett, leader of the Australian Democrats
An invitation has also been extended to Abigail Abrash, consultant to the
Robert F Kennedy Memorial Centre for Human Rights, but she has yet to
confirm her attendance.

Indonesia, discusses the gold and copper mining corporation PT Freeport,
and related questions of military and human rights in West Papua (talk: 40
minutes)
