<P>Jakarta - An amphibious Navy vehicle sank in the sea off the northern coast
of East Java province, killing six Indonesian marine officers, local media
reports said Sunday. </P>
<P>Navy spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Novarin Gunawan was quoted as confirming by
the state-run Antara News Agency that the accident took place on Saturday during
an exercise in the sea off the East Java district of Situbondo. </P>
<P>The ill-fated amphibious tank was carrying 14 marine soldiers when it sank,
he said. Eight marines survived. </P>
<P>Gunawan declined to explain into details about the cause of the incident, but
said at the time the amphibious vehicle was operating in heavy waves.
