12 dead, 120 wounded in Bali blasts
DENPASAR (JP): At least 12 people, mostly foreigners, were killed and eight
buildings were completely destroyed in a series of explosions that occurred
in Indonesia's famous tourist island of Bali on Saturday at around 23:30
p.m. local time.
Around 120 people were also wounded and are now being treated at Sanglah
Hospital in Denpasar, the capital of Bali, Antara reported.
Sources meanwhile told The Jakarta Post's reporter in Bali, Rita A.
Widiadana, that the fatalities could be higher, with the number of those
killed as high as 50 people.
"They are still pulling out bodies from the the building," said Rita, who
witnessed rescue workers pulling out bodies from Sari Club discotheque, one
of the blast sites.
At least ten cars were also destroyed in the blast.
There were many people trapped inside the destroyed buildings, Antara added.
Bali Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Suyatmo said the first explosion occurred in
Renon area, around 100 meters from the U.S. consulate general. There were no
casualties in the first blast, which allegedly came from a homemade bomb.
The second blast occurred in front of Sari Club Discotheque on Jl. Legian in
Kuta area
