Indonesia to host regional anti-terrorism meeting
JAKARTA (JP): Southeast Asian police chiefs will meet in the country this
month to discuss terrorism, drugs and transnational crimes, AFP reported.
National police spokesman Zainuri Lubis said the three-day meeting starting
Jan. 20 would be attended by police chiefs and representatives from the
10members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
"Because the terrorism issue is currently under the world spotlight, it will
become one of the main focuses of the workshop," he said.
Zainuri said speakers from the region as well as from Australia, the United
States and from Germany have confirmed their attendance.
ASEAN police chiefs normally meet every year, he said.
Police investigating the October 12 Bali bombing which killed at least 190
people are still seeking 11 people including two Malaysians. They have 15
suspects in custody.
Other suspects who have been arrested will be tried soon.
