NAME
     arch - query architecture of current machine

SYNOPSIS
     arch [archname]

DESCRIPTION
     The arch utility with no arguments returns the hardware architecture of
     the current machine, e.g.	``i386''.

     When called with an argument, arch compares the argument with the hard-
     ware architecture and exits with a status of 0 if they're the same, 1 if
     different.
