NAME
       bom - Bill of materials

DESCRIPTION
BuildDisk, Installer, and the software provided for upgrading to a new
release of NEXTSTEP all use a file system “bill of	materials” to
determine which files	to install, remove, or upgrade. A bill of
materials (BOM) is similar to the output of “ls -lR”; it lists all the
files that a directory contains, along with some information about each
file: the file's UNIX permissions, its owner and group, its size, its
time of last modification, and so on. Also included are a checksum for
each file and information about hard links.

A BOM file (named with the suffix “.bom”) stores the bill of materials
for a single directory in a binary format. Since NEXTSTEP includes a
number of optional packages which may or may not be installed on a
particular computer, more than one	BOM file may	be needed to
       characterize a given NEXTSTEP installation.

The bill of materials for a minimal NEXTSTEP	system	is stored in
/usr/lib/NextStep/BaseSystem.bom. BOMs for optional packages are found
within the package receipts located in /NextLibrary/Receipts. For
example, the bill of materials for the NEXTSTEP Documentation package
       is located in
       /NextLibrary/Receipts/Documentation.pkg/Documentation.bom.

FILES
/usr/lib/NextStep/BaseSystem.bom - BOM for the non-optional parts of
       NEXTSTEP

/NextLibrary/Receipts/*.pkg/*.bom - BOMs for other installed packages
