cifslogin, cifslogout - login to, logout from CIFS servers

DESCRIPTION

authenticates the invoking HP-UX user on the CIFS fileserver server,
thereby enabling the user to access shared directories on the server
that have been mounted on the local host. Only users with root privi‐
lege can mount remote filesystems; see mount_cifs(1M) and cifs‐
mount(1M).
If no username is given (see the option), assumes that the remote CIFS
account name is identical to user's HP-UX login name, otherwise, the
specified username is used. If no password is given on the command-
line (see and cifslogin prompts the user to enter one.
The first form of given above is used with user-level security; the
second with share-level. The obsolescent form is maintained for back‐
wards-compatability with earlier releases of the CIFS Client.
The user's login credentials for server can be saved in an encrypted
user-database (see the option and cifsdb(1M)), such that future logins
occur transparently; the user will be logged in automatically, using
the stored credentials, when simply attempting to access a mounted
share on server, without explicitly invoking
terminates active CIFS login sessions, whether established manually,
via or automatically, via the user database.
Options
recognizes the following options:
Login to server as username. If this option is not used,
but is specified, the CIFS Client transmits the
user's HP-UX login name as the remote account
username.
Use this password to login to server. If this option and
are not used, but is specified, prompts the user
for password. The option should be used only if
necessary, because command-line parameters may
appear in the output of ps(1). This option pro‐
vides the possibility of passing a dynamically-
generated password to the server.
This option specifies to
server that the user should be authenticated in
the given CIFS domain. This argument overrides
any domain setting in the configuration file.
Do not prompt for
password. This option may be used if the user
does not have a password, or to force "auto-
login" for this request (see the Administrator's
Guide for detailed information on auto-login
methods available with the CIFS Client).
Read password from stdin (implies This option may be
useful when using from a shell script or another
program. The option is insecure for this purpose,
because ps(1) can show command-line parameters of
running processes.
Transmit password unencrypted. This is a security risk
and should be used only if the server does not
allow password encryption.
If the login succeeds, store the server name and the user's
login
credentials in the user database, such that the
user's future logins to server can be established
automatically (without invoking when the user
attempts to access the local directory at which a
share on the server has been mounted.
The CIFS Client does not store unencrypted pass‐
words in the user database; this option cannot be
used for servers that do not support password
encryption.
