CYTTY(8) BSD System Manager's Manual CYTTY(8)

NAME
cytty - set special options for the Cyclades serial driver.

SYNOPSIS
     cytty [nfl | rfl] device-name

DESCRIPTION
Cytty is a utility used to set special options for the Cyclades serial
driver. It sends proprietary ioctls to the cy(4) driver.

     The following options are available:

rfl puts the port device-name in "fast" flow control mode. The driver
keeps this configuration until a system reboot or until the nfl op-
tion is used. The Cyclades driver does RTS flow control when com-
manded so by the operating system and works with any application un-
der BSDI as any other serial driver.	Under certain conditions (sys-
tem overloaded), the interrupt latency in your system can grow above
reasonable values and reception data may be occasionally lost.

The Cyclom-Y hardware has a special feature that allows it to do RTS
flow control independent of software commands. If data loss in the
reception occurs, you can try to activate this feature to resolve
the problem. Unfortunately, due to a characteristic of the serial
processor used on the board, "fast" RTS flow requires a special ca-
ble swapping RTS and DTR between the modem and the serial port.

nfl puts the port back to "normal" flow control mode.
