DESCRIPTION
       gWLM has the following daemons/services:

gwlmcmsd Runs on the central management server (CMS) in an HP Sys‐
tems Insight Manager environment with gWLM installed. This
		   daemon/service:

+ Collects and records historical data for viewing through
		     HP Systems Insight Manager

+ Delivers events from the managed nodes for viewing
		     through HP Systems Insight Manager

		   Availability
On	HP-UX, gwlmcmsd is started when you run the
		   /opt/vse/bin/vseinitconfig command.	On Microsoft Windows
systems, it is	started when	you run the C:\Pro‐
		   gram Files\HP\Virtual Server Environment\bin\vseinitconfig*
command. You can also start it manually:

		   HP-UX /opt/gwlm/bin/gwlmcmsd

		   Windows
			  C:\Program Files\HP\Virtual Server Environ‐
			  ment\bin\gwlmcmsd*

To run the command, you must be logged in as root on HP-UX
or into an account that is a member of the Administrators
		   group on Windows.

*The given Windows path is the default; however, a differ‐
ent path may have been selected at installation.

		   Compatibility with agents
		   The gWLM	A.04.10.xx gwlmcmsd runs on	HP-UX 11i v1
		   (B.11.11), HP-UX 11i v2 (B.11.23), HP-UX 11i v3 (B.11.31),
and	Microsoft Windows systems. It works with the following
		   versions of the agents:

		   + gWLM A.02.50.00.04: HP-UX 11i v1, HP-UX 11i v2

		   + gWLM A.03.00.00.05: HP-UX 11i v1, HP-UX 11i v2, HP-UX 11i
		     v3

		   + gWLM A.03.00.01.05: HP-UX 11i v1, HP-UX 11i v2, HP-UX 11i
		     v3

		   + gWLM A.04.00.07: HP-UX 11i v1, HP-UX 11i v2, HP-UX 11i v3

		   + gWLM A.04.10.xx: HP-UX 11i v1, HP-UX 11i v2, HP-UX 11i v3

NOTE: While gWLM does support the earlier agent versions
listed above, you are encouraged to upgrade to the latest
		   version.

Also, all gWLM agents within an SRD must be the same ver‐
sion. For example, a gWLM CMS can manage an SRD that uses
only A.04.00.07 agents, only A.03.00.01.05 agents, only
		   A.03.00.00.05 agents, and so forth.

The	new features introduced with a new agent version are
typically not backward-compatible. For information on the
key	features supported with each supported agent version,
see the section "Working with earlier gWLM versions" in
		   gwlmxml(4).

		   Configurable properties
For	information on properties you can configure for gwlm‐
cmsd, see the file /etc/opt/gwlm/conf/gwlmcms.properties on
		   HP-UX or the file C:\Program Files\HP\Virtual Server Envi‐
ronment\conf\gwlmcms.properties on Windows. (The given Win‐
dows path is the	default; however, a different path may
		   have been selected at installation.)

gwlmagent Runs on HP-UX systems where you want gWLM to manage the
system resources. (HP Systems Insight Manager does not need
to be installed on	these systems.) The gwlmagent dae‐
mon/service	arbitrates CPU requests from policies on the
system, deciding the CPU allocations that each workload's
		   compartment receives.

By default, you must start gwlmagent manually:

		   /opt/gwlm/bin/gwlmagent

To start gwlmagent automatically whenever a system boots,
edit the file /etc/rc.config.d/gwlmCtl or use the following
command to edit the file for you:

		   gwlmagent --enable_start_on_boot

		   Configurable properties
For	information on properties you can configure for gwlma‐
		   gent, see the file /etc/opt/gwlm/conf/gwlmagent.properties.

OPTIONS
The options for the daemons/services are described below.

Note that option arguments are introduced by two dash characters (--),
not a single dash character (-).

       No options Starts the daemon/service.

       --disable_start_on_boot
(HP-UX only) Prevents the daemon from starting whenever the
system boots. The daemon is prevented from starting by
assigning the value 0 to the variable GWLM_CMS_START (when
used with gwlmcmsd) or GWLM_AGENT_START (when used with
gwlmagent) in the file /etc/rc.config.d/gwlmCtl. The dae‐
mon immediately exits after updating the file.

NOTE: Setting GWLM_CMS_START to 0 prevents automatic use at
boot of HP Virtualization Manager and HP Capacity Advisor.

       --enable_start_on_boot
(HP-UX only) Sets the daemon to start whenever the system
boots. The daemon is set to start by assigning the value 1
to the variable GWLM_CMS_START (when used with gwlmcmsd) or
GWLM_AGENT_START (when used with gwlmagent) in the file
		   /etc/rc.config.d/gwlmCtl. The daemon immediately exits
		   after updating the file.

       --stop Stops the daemon/service.

--restart Stops and restarts the daemon on HP-UX managed nodes.

--recover Clears the collaborative mode between gWLM and the Instant
Capacity (iCAP) software. This option enables you to clear
the collaborative mode when it does not truly apply. For
example, you may see the message:

gWLM is controlling core activations and deactivations,
		      icapmodify -a is disabled.

However, the message can be displayed even when it does not
apply, such as when a system crashes or when gwlmagent pro‐
cesses are killed while their SRD is deployed.

NOTE: Alternatively, you can invoke gwlmagent with no
options to restart the agent and have gWLM control the sys‐
		   tem.

--help (HP-UX only) Displays a usage message and exits.

       * The name of	the current log always ends in .log.0. Once this file
grows to a certain size, it is moved to a filename ending in	.log.1
and a new .log.0 file is started. If a .log.1 file already exists, it
is renamed .log.2. If a .log.2 file already exists, it is overwrit‐
	 ten.

By default, the log file size is limited to 20 Mbytes and the number
of log files is limited to 3. You can change these defaults using the
	 following properties:

	 com.hp.gwlm.util.Log.logFileSize = 20
	 com.hp.gwlm.util.Log.logNFiles = 3

For the gwlmagent log, change the values of these properties in
/etc/opt/gwlm/conf/gwlmagent.properties. For all the other log files,
change the values in /etc/opt/gwlm/conf/gwlmcms.properties on HP-UX
	 and in C:\Program Files\HP\Virtual Server	Environment\conf\gwlm‐
	 cms.properties on Windows.
