NAME
     pppattach - front end to ppp

SYNOPSIS
     pppattach [-bdvx] [-i interface] [-n peerid] [-p passwd] [-s speed] [-X
	       parameter] device [local-ipaddr remote-ipaddr]

DESCRIPTION
     The pppattach command builds a ppp(8) command line and executes it.  It
     is typically used for dedicated connections, both synchronous and asyn-
     chronous, that do not require interaction with a modem.  The device argu-
     ment must either be the name of a tty device (e.g., tty00 or /dev/tty00)
     or the name of a synchronous interface (e.g., ntwo0). If specified,
     local-ipaddr and remote-ipaddr refer to the local and remote IP addresses
     to be assigned to the interface.  If not specified, it is expected that
     the remote side will provide the addresses.  The following options are
     available.

     -b	     Background mode.  See ppp(8) for more information.

     -d	     Daemon mode.  See ppp(8) for more information.

     -i	     Only valid for asynchronous requests, specify the ppp unit number
	     (e.g, 0).

     -n	     Specify the PAP (Password Authentication Protocol) peerid.

     -p	     Specify the PAP passwd.

     -s	     Only valid for asynchronous requests, specify the baud rate for
	     the line (e.g, 57600).

     -v	     Display the ppp command that would be executed, but do not exe-
	     cute it.

     -X	     Add parameter to the constructed ppp.sys(5) entry.	 This is gen-
	     erally used to add debug options, such as debug-all. See
	     ppp.sys(5) for more details.

     -x	     Debug mode.  See ppp(8) for more information.

EXAMPLES
     To connect to a remote system over an N2 interface having the remote sys-
     tem specify the IP addresses:

	  pppattach ntwo0

     To connect to a remote system over an N2 interface assigning the local IP
     address of 198.1.1.1 and a remote IP address of 198.2.1.1:

	  pppattach ntwo0 198.1.1.1 198.2.1.1

     To connect over a serial line, tty01, at 57600 baud using PAP and allow-
     ing the other side to specify IP addresses:

	  pppattach -n MYPAPNAME -p MYPAPPASSWD -s 57600 tty01
