setmnt(1) setmnt(1)

NAME
setmnt - Creates a mount table

SYNOPSIS
       setmnt

STANDARDS
Interfaces documented on this reference page conform to the following
       standards:

       setmnt:	XCU5.0

Refer to the standards(5) reference page for more information about
       industry standards and associated tags.

DESCRIPTION
The setmnt command creates the /etc/mnttab table, which is needed for
both the mount and umount commands. The setmnt command reads standard
input and creates an mnttab entry for each line. The input lines have
       the format: filesys node

The filesys path specifies the string of the file system's ``special
file'' (such as /dev/rz0a) and node specifies the root name of that
file system. This will make filesys and node as the first two strings
       in the mount table entry.

NOTES
The mount table /etc/mnttab is not supported in the System V Environ‐
ment; the mount information is stored in the kernel. The setmnt com‐
mand is provided for compatibility only.

Files that are referenced by absolute path in the System V Environment
for Tru64 UNIX reference pages actually	may be located relative to
/usr/opt/svr4. This is particularly true in the case where the inclu‐
sive view option has not been installed.

RESTRICTIONS
Users may encounter a problem if filesys or node strings are	longer
than 32 characters.	The setmnt command silently enforces an upper
limit on the maximum number of the mnttab entries.

FILES
The mount table required by both the mount and umount commands.
