setuname(8) setuname(8)

NAME
       setuname - Changes machine information

SYNOPSIS
       setuname [-t] [-sname] [-nnode]

OPTIONS
Sets node as the new network node name; node consists of alphanumeric
characters and the hyphen (-), underbar (_), and dollar sign ($) char‐
acters. Sets name as the new system name; name consists of alphanu‐
meric characters and the hyphen (-), underbar (_), and dollar sign ($)
characters. Specifies	a temporary change for the node name or system
name. A temporary change only affects the running kernel.

DESCRIPTION
The setuname command changes the values of the system name and node
       name parameters.

The setuname command attempts to change these parameter values in the
running kernel and, if necessary to the implementation, to cross system
reboots. A temporary change affects only the running kernel.

The system architecture may place size requirements on the system name
and network node name. The setuname command issues an error message if
the entered name or node value is not compatible.

NOTES
You must specify either the -s option or the -n, or both.

RESTRICTIONS
You must be root to use setuname.
