in addition to ports list official polarhome IRC ports are port forwarded in special way to each server.

Note: These ports are portforwarded to port 6667 on given host and it is not necesserily exit some IRC server.

However users may run their own IRC server and bouncers by using other direct access ports. Non malitious IRC activity is allowd in polarhome.com realm.
Users need shell access to be able to set up and run their own IRC server etc. More information i polarhome policy.

Polarhome IRC server

At irc.polarhome.com has been installed an IRC server which listens at 6660-6670 ports. This server is, as everything on polarhome.com absolutely free and without any  rules in order to popularize Unix and linux  environment. Even bots are allowed if they are not destructive. It is accessible from outside or if you have an account on ome polarhome.com host by invoicing irc your_name  hostname.polarhome.com
Polarhome IRC bots

On most of the servers has been instaled one of the most popular irc bot servers: eggdrop
In order to run eggdrop, you will need to have shell access to that polarhome host and please, follow these steps:

• Read the documentation at http://www.polarhome.com/service/manual/eggdrop/ or at /home/e/eggdrop/doc
• Create/edit one config file
• Check that ports and bot names are uniqe in eggdrop home dir.
• Change to /home/e/eggdrop (eggdrop home directory)
• Start eggdrop with your config file as ./eggdrop -m /home/m/me/my_config.conf
• Note: configure your eggdropt to use some free "direct access" port, otherwise it will not be reachabe from the internet just inside the polarhome.com realm.
• If you want to use, compile, build your own eggdrop. Polarhome suggests to use polarhome CVS mirror that is safe source for latest source code.
• It is possible to configure IPv6 bots on polarhome servers.

Polarhome IRC proxy

Now days the internet security is one of the hottest topic and the system administrators paranoic closing all port on the firewall, among others the standard IRC ports. Here is a simple and easy solution... the IRC proxy. You can connect on port 8080 and it will connect you to your favorite IRC server.
The normal scenario should looks like:

• start your favorite chat client (irc, mirc or whatever)
• go to the server irc.polarhome.com on port 8080 (port is very important otherwise you can not make the connection)
• after successful connection add command  /quote conn <your_irc_server_name>
• ... and you can use IRC as all other normal chatters without the firewall problems.

SOCKS proxies are not public any more. They had been closed because of heavy remote abuse.
