Installing, managing, and removing software

Methods of installation

You can install software packages or sets in either of two modes: ``interactive'' or ``non-interactive''. When you use the Application Installer, you are always using interactive mode.

In interactive mode, pkgadd(1M) queries you during installation and receives input on how to proceed. In non-interactive mode, you give pkgadd(1M) the information it needs by supplying two files: an admin file and a response file. You can also spool a package for later installation.

If pkgadd encounters a problem and cannot find instructions in the admin file or response file, it terminates the installation.
