The Mail Manager

Managing file-based locking

Kernel-based locking is always enabled. If an older mail program that does not use kernel-based locking is to be used on the system, file-based locking should be enabled. File-based locking is a backwards compatible locking method that creates files of the form folder.lock to lock a mail folder. It has a higher overhead and is therefore much slower than kernel locking.

To set file-based locking:

  1. Double click on the ``File Based Locking Enabled'' entry to produce a pop-up ``Modify File Based Locking Enabled'' screen.

  2. Click on the ``File Based Locking Enabled'' button to enable file-based locking.

  3. Click on OK to return to the main screen.
