Managing the file/directory creation umask
The umask is used by the message store for creating both folders
and direction. The only exception is the INBOX where
the umask has 077 bits added to it, preventing inboxes from being
accessed by anyone but the owner. When the message store (folder)
creates files it always uses this mask. However, the message store
is used by a variety of programs (sendmail,
mailx and the POP and IMAP servers)
and therefore, the configuration of the message store affects
many of the programs.
NOTE:
For security reasons, mail delivery from the mail transport
(slocal) always sets the UNIX umask to 077 before
calling the message store. Therefore this value is primarily
useful for clients that manipulate folders (such as mailx
and POP/IMAP clients).
To modify the file/directory umask:
-
Double click on the entry to produce a pop-up ``Modify File/Directory
Creation Umask'' screen.
-
Enter a number between 0 and 0777. An error message is produced if
you enter an invalid number.
-
Click on OK to return to the main screen.
