atmtest(1M) atmtest(1M)

NAME
atmtest - simple transmit and receive tests for ATM.

SYNOPSIS
     atmtest -X { rw | ro | wo } [ -i port# ] [ -C ] [ -n npkts ]
     [ -P -e bps ] [ -v vci ] [ -p vpi ]

DESCRIPTION
atmtest transmits and/or receives data over ATM permanent virtual
circuits.	The most common use for atmtest is to perform loop-back tests
either by directly connecting the ATM output to the ATM input or through
an ATM switch (through a permanent virtual circuit routed back to the
     host).

     atmtest has the following options:

     -X {ro|wo|rw}
This specifies the type of test atmtest will run: read-only (ro),
write-only (wo), or read-write (rw).	The -X rw option is a loop-
back test. atmtest expects to receive the ATM data on the same
	  port/VPI/VCI that it sends.

     -i port#
Specifies the ATM port on which the test is performed. The default
	  is 0.

-C Do data integrity checks by filling transmitted packets with random
data and/or checking random data on receive side. This can slow
	  down the operation of atmtest.

     -n <num>
Specify the number of packets until the test completes.

     -P -e <bps>
The -P option requests a constant bit-rate (CBR) connection when
requesting a PVC. It should be used in conjunction with the -e
option which specifies the (payload) bits-per-second to be requested
	  when the PVC is created.

     -v <vci>
Specify the VCI of the virtual circuit used for the test. The value
can be either hexadecimal or decimal.

     -p <vpi>
Specify the VPI of the virtual circuit used for the test. The value
can be either hexadecimal or decimal.

EXAMPLES
     atmtest -X rw
This performs a simple loop-back test on port 0. The port should
either be connected in a loop-back fashion or the ATM switch should
have the permanent virtual circuit routed back to the host.

atmtest(1M) atmtest(1M)

     atmtest -i1 -X rw -C -p1 -v181
This performs a simple loop-back test over port 1 using VPI 1 and
VCI 181. It also performs data integrity tests.

WARNINGS
When a port is directly connected to itself in loop-back (i.e. with no
intermediate switch), the loop-timing feature of the SONET phy should be
disabled with atmconfig -o 0. See atmconfig(1m) for a discussion of SONET
     loop-timing.
