NAME
wlmcomd - service requests from the HP-UX Workload Manager (WLM) graph‐
       ical user interface

SYNOPSIS
       [-p port]
       [ -s ]

DESCRIPTION
provides support for the WLM graphical user interface, allowing local
and remote access to the system.

       You must start to use

Start on any system running a WLM daemon or a WLM global arbiter daemon
that you would like to interact with using is needed only if you are
using WLM's virtual partition management, its Instant Capacity-based
nPartition management, or its management of Temporary Instant Capacity
and Pay per use resources. (Instant Capacity was formerly known as
iCOD.) You only need to start one even if the system is running both
       and

As a security measure, must be explicitly started:

You can also start at boot	time by editing the file /etc/rc.con‐
       fig.d/wlm.

OPTIONS
       Displays usage information and exits.
This option overrides all other options.

Displays version information and exits.	This option overrides all
	    options other than

       Changes the port that
monitors for requests to port. When using this option, be sure to
configure to send requests to port as well.

port is a port number greater than 0.

If	you do not specify a port, searches the file /etc/services for
the first line with the following format:

	    hp-wlmcom port_number/tcp

If such an entry is found, port_number is used as	the port. If
such an entry is not found, the default port of 9692 is used,
assuming it is not in /etc/services with protocol tcp. If it is,
	    an error is issued.

Causes WLM to run in secure mode if you have distributed security
certificates to the systems in question. For more information on
using security certificates, see the wlmcert(1M) manpage.

WLM runs in secure mode by default	when you use the
/sbin/init.d/wlm script to start WLM. If you upgraded WLM, secure
mode might not be the default. Ensure that the following	secure
mode variables are enabled in /etc/rc.config.d/wlm. You can
change the default by editing the values for these variables.

       Kills any running instance of
preventing the servicing of any more requests. However, requests
that are already	being serviced (via children of are not inter‐
rupted. Thus, active monitoring sessions can continue, without
	    service interruption.

RETURN VALUE
returns exit status if no errors occur, or if there are errors.

NOTES
To use	with a particular system running the user must have a valid
login on that system, a password that is not expired (if password aging
is active), and a standard shell. If the user's password is expired or
shell is illegal (see getusershell(3C)), access is denied.

WARNINGS
Use (or start WLM by using the /sbin/init.d/wlm script) to secure com‐
       munications, or:

Use only on trusted LANs where you trust all the users: All data
exchanged between and including the user's password, is	trans‐
mitted without encryption over the network.

Restrict	communications between and to only authorized users to
	      improve security.

Each connection to represents a separate process on the system. As
such, each connection	consumes resources, such as open file descrip‐
tors, a process ID, memory, and so forth. A large number of connections
could result in denial of service. You can restrict connections by
deploying on systems behind a firewall that blocks access to the port
       being used.

DEPENDENCIES
PAM is an Open Group standard for user authentication, password modifi‐
cation, and validation of accounts. is	invoked to authenticate the
user. This includes retrieving the	password and validating the
account. Each connection to involves a lookup of host and user	infor‐
mation from configured databases, such as hosts(4), logingroup(4), and
passwd(4). This information may be found locally on the server,	or it
may be provided by network services, such as DNS or NIS. In the latter
cases, if no server is	able to respond, continues waiting	for a
       response.
